Considering installing sacrificial anode within engine.

You made me read and think. It has been 48 years since my corrosion class. When you said aluminum I was thinking of aluminum alloys we use for parts. Aluminum for anodes are a different animal. SeaDoos drain off the lowest point of the exhaust manifold when not running. Doesn't the volume on...

Considering installing sacrificial anode within engine.

Look at the galvanic chart. Depending on the engine and anode aluminum alloys involved, the engine may up protecting the anode. Zinc or magnesium are what you really want.

    Rotary valve gear lubrication question...

I am not butt hurt at all. I too come here for the real world knowledge and experience. "I have never seen one fail in 35 years of working on these that didn't have mechanical damage cause it, like a bolt down the intake." That statement makes perfect sense to me. The rotary valve shaft is...

    Rotary valve gear lubrication question...

Being a retired engineer who designed parts for a living, it gives me chills when I listen to anyone assuming the folks who make OEM stuff are in the dark about their product and only spend their time going to meetings to figure out how to save a few pennies. Sure there are the meetings where...

Sand in the motor...should I disassemble???

Guess you read the big caution note and did the right things.

Sand in the motor...should I disassemble???

Was the exhaust clear because the orifice fitting plugged? Was the hose to the fitting clear of sand? It is the lower right angle fitting that supplies water directly into the exhaust. Mine is stamped 48 so that means it has a 4 mm inlet and a 3.5 mm outlet. Since the hose in you first picture...

Sand in the motor...should I disassemble???

Read the operation manual first. It says flush the system on the hose. Does the beeper work so you get the overheat alarm? Let's see what the experienced mechanics say. I would blow out all the hoses first and take a look at the orifice fitting before running it on the hose.

    SeaDoo Speedometer sensor fix instructions

Ski is winterized and I will have to wait until summer to start experimenting with watching it in turns. For the next half a year I will be wondering about it every time I walk past it in the driveway. I am so obsessive about this stuff. It is a good thing and a bad thing.

    SeaDoo Speedometer sensor fix instructions

Long overdue post. This June I got the family ski back to my driveway. The speedo was still doing the original thing of intermittently working above 20 MPH despite the fixed sensor and checking all connections twice. I bought a different speedo off Ebay and installed it. It may be slightly less...

How to get these screws out?

A favorite of mine for carb screws. I keep one of these on top of my workbench as my go to screwdriver. Both are worth the price.

No spindle washer on my trailer?

4 Timkens and 2 National seals cost me $60 US. I also replaced the bearing buddies since they were out. Also I replaced the 1997 tires first. The ski has been to the other side of the state and back a few times, 280 miles each way . Sure it was twice the price of the no name cheaper kits but I...

No spindle washer on my trailer?

Timken SET 4 is for the 1.06". Timken SET 14 is for the 1.00". Amazon has them for under $10. I don't buy cheaper no name bearings. If I change one, I change them all. My trailer spindle didn't have enough indexing holes to get the proper end play, .001” to 0.005”. It was either too tight or...

    717 carbs

My single carb 97 GTI had an off idle bog. I put on the new later model replacement carb with different jets etc. Without opening it up or touching the screws, the bog is gone and it runs flawlessly.

97 gti stumbles off idle, feather the throttle runs great

I have a 97 GTI and it had the same exact issue. I never got the issue fixed before the top airbox lug broke due to the carb to head support not fitting well. To me it looks like SeaDoo knew there was a problem and they worked on in subsequent years. In 98 they went with a bigger pilot, more low...

    2000 717 GTI Parasitic Draw

artr, using math? It is a powerful tool. I was chasing down a parasitic draw in the son-in-law's 2006 Acura RL the last two days. It drained the battery in a couple weeks. First day of work I made no progress except to find one burned fuse. Never got the amp reading to change. Started the next...

    2000 717 GTI Parasitic Draw

Google "digital switch low voltage when off" and read the AI generated answer. Digital switches doesn't go all the way to zero or all the way up to supply voltage. They just get close enough to both to cause things to operate correctly. I wrote functional tests for commercial airplanes. When we...

    Oil injection bleed screw

Read about annealing copper washers. I have reused many as is and annealed and both worked. I now anneal them all just for peace of mind.

    Help with 717 single carb

Same 97 GTI here that we bought for $1. It had never been touched and wasn't running due to clogged filter inside carb. Rebuilt the carb and ran it for part of a year. Read the carb rebuild thread many times and I think I followed all the instructions. It had a similar lean bog off idle. No...

    97 GTS runs then dies

Common advice from experts and manufactures is never poke anything though jets or small carburetor passages. There are those cavemen out there so I understand their perspective so never let it be said I suggested it. Aluminum oxide is what I think the white stuff was. It is actually harder and...
