For some reason Cometic sent these gaskets like it was an organ donation, I got them this morning! Obviously, they are not correct. I cut the opening to match the manifold and installed them. No more leaking. Yay!

Thank you for the response. It does not have a gasket or seal. I was thinking about using sealer, but I hate to do that since it should not need any. The problem is I cannot install this engine in its present condition.

I rechecked the surfaces and torqued to 90 inch/lbs. Still leak. Any ideas?

951 Carb engine leaks at the intake manifolds when doing a leak down test. Surfaces are clean, torque is correct. Is it ok to use sealer? I would rather not, but I have tried two sets of manifolds with the same result.

I have two 951 carb engines I am assembling, and both are about .090 squish with a head gasket installed and no base gasket. I think the spec is .067 to .091. One has a WSM crank, the other is SeaDoo. Pistons in both engines are WSM. Based on what I know, I need to deck them about .030. This...

I understand forged pistons are much more likely to cold seize, especially in cold water.

I took a Di apart that had over 200 hours, many were at full throttle. The pistons were in very good condition. It the engine is maintained; they will go a long way. Try removing the RAVE valves and looking at the piston skirts. That should tell you a lot.

I usually ride about once per week. I bring them inside in the off season where it is heated and charge them periodically.

That was my conclusion! The issue is this a "NEW" balance shaft out of the box! I sent it back.

There are a number of good pistons available. WSM platinum are OK. Wossner are a work of art. Pro-X are good. I would stay away from SBT. Just my four cents (inflation) Are you going to bore the cylinders? If so, how much?
