    Myrtle Beach

DO NOT GO TO MYRTLE BEACH!! I came back with a wonderful reminder. A $1500 bill for damage and losses due to a break in of my car. They couldn't get in the door handle with a screwdriver, so they instead smashed out the window and stole my GPS. (It was a great 7am phone call.) The police...

    Impeller Pitch

I have a 94 SPX that had a jet pump go belly up. I bought a complete assembly from a 95 spx. I removed the variable trim and looked into the pump to look at the impeller. The part number is 271000445. My old impeller is 271000182. What is the pitch difference for the impeller? Also, since my...

    Self destructed impeller assembly

I have finally pulled the impeller assembly apart. I found the rear bearing assembly gone. The thrust washer heavily damaged and bearings gone. Most importantly, the thrust bearing and the end of the shaft appear to have ground into the impeller housing. What have you guys found as a good...

    Spark Plug Melting

Well, I have replaced the engine and went out Wednesday. The unit ran well, but I wanted to look at the spark plugs for grins. I found the rear cylinder plug to be melted on the tip. (Look at pic) They are both heavily carboned, but the melt is my concern. I looked at the piston, there does not...

    Hose routing (pic)

I have attached a picture of my problem. There is a nipple on the left side of the block towards the bottom that I don't have a corresponding hose. Also there is another hose coming from the #1 carb. All of the hoses have been connected according to the manual. HELP!

    Wear Ring

I pulled out the wear ring and found the ring(s) currently in the housing do not match the ring I have received. The ring has a black outer ring with a white inner ring that matches the new one. I checked the impeller and found everything to line up. What's the deal? Has anyone else found this...

    Oil Injection ('94 SPX)

How do you guys feel about checking and leaving the system in as your main oiling system. (I hate mixing the oil in the gas) I know I will when the SBT engine is up and running. But for the time after that, do you guys feel it is reliable enough?

    Ethanol gas

I just noticed the local gas station (QT) has posted stickers indicating the fuel is now 10% Ethanol. Does anyone know of any ill effects on the engine?

    Force to move impeller

I have pulled the engine from my '94 spx and find it difficult to spin the impeller. It will move with a pair of pliers on the spindle, but not by hand. The manual does not indicate force required to turn the shaft. The wear ring appears to be ok, but I may remove it for shaft inspection and...

Newbie needs a heads up on a 94 SPX

Hello all, Well I am idiot, again. I just bought a '94 SPX off of Ebay sight unseen as a project for my son and I to work on for the new season. The donor for carangel states he was told by a mechanic "one of the heads"(huh?) is bad. I am an accomplished mechanic and I just wanted to know of...
